Not if you’re his kid.
Here’s an idea: listen to your father. Believe it or not, he’s learned something during his life. You may think he’s doing this to get “free slave labor”, but the truth is he is trying to teach you something. If you’re smart, you’ll try and learn.

It depends on your age. If you’re still living at home, your dad could rationalize that your pay is being offset by rent, food, health care, and everything else he provides for you.

No. That is perfectly legal.

No, it is not illegal.

nope if your under 18 and he is your legal father he can make you do whatever he wants to in reason that its not harming you

How old are you?
Actually it doesn’t matter.
If you live with him after you’re 18 and don’t pay rent, then he can say that he’s making you do this in exchange for rent/food.
If you live with him and you’re under 18, he’s legally obligated to feed and house you, but you’re also considered personal property in the eyes of the law. He can make you do anything he wants and so long as he’s not abusing you, you’re out of luck.
That having been said, if you’re under 18, there are child labor laws that much still be followed.

NO it is not against the law. Quit whining and help out your parents, you might learn something along the way….like responsibility!
Here is the law for you-
Jobs Exempt from Child Labor Law Regulations
In general, children of any age are permitted to work for businesses entirely owned by their parents, except those under 16 may not be employed in mining or manufacturing and no one under 18 may be employed in any occupation the Secretary of Labor has declared to be hazardous.
Minors employed in the delivery of newspapers to consumers are exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) child labor provisions, as well as the wage and hours provisions.
Children employed as actors or performers in motion pictures or theatrical productions, or in radio or television productions are exempt from Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) coverage. Therefore, FLSA rules regarding total allowable number of work hours in one day and allowable times of day to work do not apply.
There are other exemptions, including making evergreen wreaths at home, so, check the DOL Exemptions from Child Labor Law Rules for the full list.

If you live under his roof, regardless of your age, your father has the control. If you are 18 or over, move out and get a job. Then you have the control over what you want to do.

No, grow up. His boat company is paying for the roof over your head and the food you eat, and the clothes on your back.

A) You are his kid, he is giving to traning and chance to learn some thing. You should say thanks to him.
B) If you are 18 years old or above and you need to earn money for fulfilling your needs, instead of finding a new job your dad offered you to work in his company and he is not paying you then it is illegal
C) If you dont need to earn money because your needs are been fulfilled by your parents then if your dad has ask you to work in his company i.e washing boats, he is legal.

Lets see, your dad provides a roof over your head, food, clothing, medical care, an education and now you are complaining?
Do you believe that he should be the one giving you everything and you giving him nothing?
I believe you will find that our government does the same thing for illegal immigrants. Oh yes and guess who is paying for that? That’s right its your dad in all of the taxes that he must pay to stay in business. Why don’t you start thinking about all of the things that he does for you and stop complaining because he is not giving you more.

Do you live under his roof? Do you eat the food that he buys? Does he pay for the utility bills that you use? Do you wear the cloths he buys? If you answered yes to any of these!
You do the math! (ô¿ô)

Well, it’s a shame he has to make you! Wouldn’t it have been nice had it been your idea? If it’s just a couple of hours a week and leaves you enough time for your home work and some hobbies, I agree that it would be a good lesson in learning responsibility and that life isn’t all fun and play.
If he isn’t paying you, see if you can get rewarded in other ways for a job well done. I know that your whole family would only want the best for you if they know you are pitching in and helping.
